Why blame yourself when you can blame a woman, especially an ex-girlfriend?
Sergio Garcia's golf game isn't up to snuff so far this year, and it appears that he has figured out the reason why: Morgan-Leigh Norman, his ex-girlfriend and daughter of golf legend Greg Norman. The relationship has been over for sometime now, but Mr. Garcia is apparently still lovelorn and heartbroken. Sounds sweet, really, but did he ever consider that his sponsors and his fans aren't going to care unless his game really starts going down the toilet?
Tiger Woods has a bad season a while back when his father died. That's understandable, and Tiger addressed that in an appropriate fashion, even as his sponsors were pressuring him to go on with the show. But to lose concentration over a woman? It would be easy to say that Sergio is not the top-tier tough-as-nails athlete he should be if he'd going to let a little thing like a breakup mess with his game. Yet if a woman (or the absence of one) really is ruining his life, he needs to get some help fast before the money runs out and he can no longer afford a $125-an-hour shrink.
That said, Mr. Garcia needs to get his priorities straight. If love is what he really wants (I find that hard to believe), then he needs to leave professional golf and focus on matters of the heart. But if he truly likes the limelight and all the endorsements and all the adoring fans - and he still doesn't want to be lonely or appear lonely - then he needs to go find (literally) a trophy wife and parade her around alongside him while he collects his kudos and his checks. It's all a bunch of bunk when an athlete says they are in the game for the love of the game and then can't say no to an endorsement of a round of golf that they mentally are not ready to play. Mr. Garcia needs to figure it out quick before his handicap really does become a handicap.
Ever wonder why all the women who break famous men's hearts are blondes? It's pretty simple, really. When you are playing to the camera, you've got to make sure the camera likes what it sees. Blondes just look better on a golf course than fat guys in green expando-waist slacks, no? Even Telemundo and Univision know that.
